The Celadon Studio has been located in the Maplewood Shops of downtown Northampton since 2006.
Amenities: The studio offers 4 Pacifica GT potters wheels, a large work table, full sized slab roller, new Tucker Cone Art electric kiln, 20+ studio glazes, hundreds of pounds of raw glaze chemicals for your own use, plaster bats for clay reclaim, ample storage shelf space, bats, Talisman sieve, Giffen Grip, and trimming chucks.
Clay: The studio offers white stoneware and porcelain from Sheffield Potters Supply and Amherst Potters Supply. Stoneware clays cost $40 per bag, porcelain $50 per bag. All clay prices include bisque and glaze firings as well as all glaze fees. Members can bring in their own clay for a firing charge of $25 per bag of clay.
Space size and cost per month:
For less serious artists or hobbyists, we offer a shared shelf space, with half a shelving unit, which is 4 shelves. Cost per month is $100 with a 6 month lease. First and last months rent upon signing of lease.
All spaces are for folks with previous clay experience as there is no instruction provided. Most of the time you will be in the studio on your own. Tenants are expected to clean up after themselves and be respectful of other tenants and the space.
Firing Schedule: We fire as soon as there is enough for a full kiln load. If you have a special event, show or holiday, let us know and we'll make sure to get your work through asap. We generally fire about one to three times per week. Glazes: We offer 20+ studio glazes and are always testing new recipes to add to our collection. If you have a special glaze you like to work with, we have the raw chemicals to mix it! Make it up and keep it on your shelf or just throw it in the mix for the studio use.
